Daily Calendar Routines

Each day we have calendar time!  This is one of my favorite times of the day because my students are active and engaged with the learning.  It is a great way to review several math skills.  We spend about 20 minutes on calendar each day.  Some days are shorter than others depending on what we have going on.  As the year goes on, I add more skills to review.  However, we are faster than we were at the beginning so our length of time for calendar doesn't change.

You can see my calendar/math wall set up here.  I try to post all the skills that we review each day and then any other math learning targets we are working on.

We always start by counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's.  Sometimes I have them start at a different number to help them count on from any number.

We also say the months of the year and the days of the week.  We review that there are 12 months in a year and 7 days in a week.  We also practice reading/spelling our color words, as well as identifying the coins and how much they are worth.

We review our shapes and what makes them that shape.  For example, a square has 4 sides and they're all the same size.  We also review telling time to the hour and half hour.

Then, each day we track the weather.  We find what the temperature is outside, look at the thermometer to determine what color it is, and then use the inky pinky to track our weather each day. It helps us learn whether the temperature outside is cold or hot.  We can better understand what the numbers mean when talking about degrees.

We always finish our calendar time by completing our journal pages.  We fill out a calendar, a weather tracking sheet, and then a review journal page.  The journal page gets more difficult each month because we are learning more skills throughout the year.  This whole packet can be found on TpT at Growing Kinders.  It is an amazing packet filled with great review skills during calendar time.

If you have a daily calendar routine, I would love to hear about it!  Please share a comment below.  Happy Wednesday!
