Back to School BBQ Blog Hop

WOW!  Can you believe that it is August already?  I am full of mixed emotions.  I am excited, nervous, sad, and happy about the end of summer and start of school.  I am starting my first year teaching second grade, and I am excited/nervous about it.  However, I truly think it's going to be a great year!

So.. to help you with the beginning of the year I have a fun critter treat you could do with your kiddos!  Who doesn't like a fun, healthy snack?

I enjoy doing Foodie Friday in my classroom where we have a fun treat that goes along with our weekly theme.  We made a healthy ladybug snack in my class!

Here is what you need:

Ingredients:  Apple slices, chocolate chips, marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and peanut butter

1.  You have students take the apple slices and stick them together at the top with peanut butter.
2.  Then, have them take the pretzel sticks and poke them into a marshmallow.
3.  Stick the marshmallow on the top of the apple slices using peanut butter.
4.  Place some marshmallows in between the apple slices to look like the body.
5.  Use peanut butter to stick the chocolate chips on the apple slices.
6. Eat and enjoy!

I do understand that when school starts back up it is hard to prepare meals for dinner.  So... I am also including this great recipe that I use from allrecipes.com.  You can also get the Allrecipes app on your phone - save recipes to your recipe box - AND make grocery lists based on what you're cooking.  You can also use the Spinner where it can spin a meal just for you based on a few requests.  I spend hours on this sometimes.  It's a great app, and I definitely recommend it.

Now for this meal - it is amazing!!  It is so simple and seriously one of my most favorite recipes.  All you need is a crock pot!!

Click on the image below to see the full recipe:

Ingredients:
3 pounds of beef chuck roast
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
2 tablespoons of pepper
water

I don't add the pepper because I don't like any spicy, and it tastes delicious without it!

1.  Combine the soy sauce and the dry onion soup mix into the bottom of the crock pot.  Mix well!
2.  Add in the beef chuck roast.
3.  Add water until the top 1/2 of the roast is covered.
4.  The recipe says to cook for 22 hours on low - I usually cook on high for 8-10 hours and it is delicious!

I mean really - this is SO simple, serves a lot, and tastes SO good.  It melts in your mouth!  One of my favorites.  I make it for just my husband and I, and we eat on it for days.  I also enjoy serving it with mashed potatoes. :]

You have read so much - so I am going to spoil you with this new freebie I created!  It goes along with the buggy snack.  This is a fun math center or small group activity where students can practice subtraction.  Click on the image below to grab your freebie today!  Be sure to follow my TPT store so that you can receive updates on my latest creations. :]
